2 eggs
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour (or more - as thick as you can stir it)

Directions:
Directions:
Beat mixture only enough to blend well then pour into large bowl of flour with well in middle. Knead until you get it to where you can pinch in small ball. Put ball onto oiled cookie sheet. Dip fingers in oil in pan and press out. Bake at 400 until brown.

Mama Bobo (Mama Dupree's mother) made these ever since Mama Dupree was old enough to remember, and Mama Dupree has made these ever since I can remember. She always let us pat out the dough and she'd save us a small bowl of raw dough to eat with our tea cakes.
