2 sticks butter (softened)
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour
3 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda

Topping:
cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans or almonds)

Directions:

Mix butter and sugar. Add eggs. Add vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add sour cream. Pour half the batter into a greased and floured tube pan. Sprinkle half the topping mix onto the batter in the pan. Add and spread the remaining batter. Top with the remainder of the topping mix. Place pats of butter on the topping to set and keep firm during baking. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-60 minutes until a butter knife can be inserted and comes out clean.

This recipe came from an Italian friend in Connecticut who is a fabulous cook. This is one of Madeleine's favorites. I made it for her every Christmas for years. Best when eaten warm and served with a strong cup of coffee! Yummy!!!
