2 cups flour
1/2 to 1 cup butter
2 cups oats
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda

Filling:
1 cup dates, cut up
1 cup water
1 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Rub butter into dry ingredients. Pack down half the mixture into 9"x13" pan.

Cook filling in saucepan over low heat until tender. Spread filling over oat mixture. Cover with remaining mixture. Pat down slightly.
Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
Cool in pan and cut into squares.
