6 egg whites
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 3/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 tsp soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Combine egg whites and cream of tartar in large bowl, beat until stiff peaks form, set aside.
Cream shortening, gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed until well blended.
Combine flour mixture, stir in extracts, fold in 1/4 of beaten egg whites, blend well, fold in remaining egg whites. pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans, or 2 9x12 inch pans
Bake @ 350 30-40 minutes or until done
Cool in pan 10 minutes, remove
Frost with orange frosting
