3-1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 8 ounce package dates, chopped
2 cups walnuts, chopped
1 pound orange slice candy, cut in pieces
1 3-1/4 ounce can coconut
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup orange juice
2 cups confectioners sugar, sifted

Directions:

Sift flour and salt together and set aside. In separate bowl combine baking soda and buttermilk. In separate bowl combine dates, walnuts, candy, and coconut. Mix with 1/2 cup of above flour mixture. In large mixing bowl whip butter until smooth. Gradually add while beating 2 cups of sugar. Add the 4 eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. To butter and eggs mixture, add milk mixture alternating with flour mixture, mixing well after each addition. Add candy mixture, mixing well. Cake will be a thick consistency. Turn into a greased and floured 10" tube pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Combine orange juice and confectioners sugar, mixing well. Pour over still hot cake. Let cool then refrigerate over-night before removing from pan.
