1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. white vinegar
2 1/2 c. cake flour, sifted
1 tsp baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
2 oz. red food coloring

Frosting:
2 tsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
For cake: Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Make a paste of cocoa and coloring. Add to butter mixture. Combine vanilla and buttermilk and add above mixture alternating with the flour. Combine vinegar and baking soda and blend into batter.
Bake 2 (9 inch) pans at 350F for 30 minutes.

For frosting: Cook milk and flour until thick. Cool. Beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Add milk mixture and beat until you cannot feel any grains of sugar between your fingers.
