4 slices bacon, cut into 1/2" pieces
1 lb. vension, cubed (beef could be used)
2 c. water
1 c. beef broth
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. marjoram
1/4 tsp. pepper
4 oz. tiny pearl onions
2 medium carrots, cut in 1" pieces
1 large potato, cut in 1" pieces
1/2 c. cold water
3 T. flour
1/2 tsp. browning sauce
2 T. parsley

Directions:
Cook bacon in roaster until crisp. Remove bacon, cook vension in fat. Add 2 cups water, broth, salt, thyme, marjoram and pepper. Heat to boiling, reduce heat. Cover and simmer till tender, 2 hours. Stir in onions, carrots and potato. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 30 minutes. Shake 1/2 cup cold water and flour, add to stew. Stir in browning sauce, cook till thickened. Sprinkle with bacon and parsley.
