1/2 cup shortening 1 1/2 cup sugar 2 eggs, well beaten 2 1/2 cup flour 1 cup nuts 1 pkg. dates 1 tsp. soda 1 cup boiling water
Chop dates. Dissolve soda in the boiling water and pour over dates. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Sift flour and add alternately with date mixture. Add nuts. Bake in 2 layers about 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Use frosting to Japanese Fruit Cake.
