1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups chopped nuts
2 eggs
6 teaspoons buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 Mashed bananas

2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Cherry juice for the rest of liquid

Mix cake using typical process. Pour into two round greased cake pans. Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Make icing and thin with cherry juice. When iced, decorate with cherries cut 1/2 and pecan halves.

I started baking this cake when Carolyn and Doug were still in high school. Carolyn would make pies and Doug this cake and the competition at Easter would begin. Infact, Doug started making this recipe 1 1/2 times so he could make three layers and there would be enough to serve everyone.
