2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
pinch salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 egg whites, unbeaten
1 3/4 c. buttermilk
2 3/4 c. cake flour
Frosting:
1/2 c. oleo
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. hot milk
3 1/4 c. powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening; add vanilla, then salt. Add egg whites one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in 2 T. flour. Add 3/4 c. buttermilk with baking soda added. Add remaining flour and milk alternately. Bake at 350 F. for 25-30 minutes in greased and floured jelly roll pan. To make Penuche Frosting; melt oleo; add brown sugar and bring to a boil. Add hot milk; cool. Beat until smooth. Beat in powdered sugar until mixture is of spreading consistency.

To make your own cake flour: 1 c. regular flour and add 2 T. corn starch.
