1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 lemon
1/2 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs. Add milk, flour, baking powder, and salt alternately and grated rind of the lemon. Bake 45 minutes at 350.

Squeeze lemon and add 1/2 cup sugar. Heat over stove until sugar melts. Spoon over bread when taken from oven, holding sides of loaf away from pan with a knife.
