1 cup sugar (scant)
3 teaspoons flour
3 eggs (separated)
2 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, flour and salt. Stir in egg yolks and milk gradually until all mild is added. Cook until this mixture begins to thicken. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into hot custard, adding vanilla flavoring.

Note on this recipe was: This sauce is good to pour over plain cake as it is served. We have often heard of the cake and custard served to the Finley children when they were sick. Is this that custard?
