2 slices French or Italian bread, torn into small pieces
1/2 cup milk
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 pound ground beef
1/4 pound sweet Italian sausage, remove from casing (can also use hot sausage if want more spice)
6 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley (flat leaf)
1 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp chopped garlic or garlic powder
1 tsp grated lemon peel
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp salt
fresh ground black pepper

Directions:

Soak bread in milk for 5 minutes. Squeeze dry and discard milk. Combine bread, egg, beef, sausage, Parmesan, parsley, olive oil, garlic, lemon peel, allspice, salt and pepper. Knead vigorously or beat with wooden spoon. Shape into 1-1/2 inch balls. Lay flat on cookie tray. Wrap with plastic and chill for an hour. Bake in oven at 375F until no pink in center (~20 minutes)
