3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
2 t. soda
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. ginger
1/2 t. cloves
1/4 t. salt
granulated sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar. Cover and chill 1 hour. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Shape dough into little balls and roll in sugar. Place on cookie sheet 2 inches apart and press with thumb. Bake 10-12 minutes or just until set.
