1 c sugar
2 T cornstarch
1/2 t salt
2 t vanilla
1 c evaporated milk/1 c water
2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
2 T margarine/butter, softened
6 oz. vanilla wafers
6 bananas
6 egg whites

Directions:
Directions:
Mix 1/2 c sugar, cornstarch, and salt in 2 qt. saucepan. Stir milk and water in gradually. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute. Stir at least half of hot mixture into egg yolks. Then blend into hot mixture in saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in margarine and vanilla.
In glass 9" x 13" baking dish, spread thin layer of pudding on bottom of dish, then a layer of vanilla wafers, following with a layer of sliced bananas. Continue this process until pudding is gone.

In mixing bowl, whip egg whites and 1/2 cup sugar until peaks form. Spread meringue over top of pudding using a fork to form peaks. Lightly sprinkle sugar over top of meringue. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and place pan on top shelf of oven. Bake for roughly 8-9 minutes or until peaks are golden brown. Remove from oven and cool in refrigerator.
