1 - 18.5 oz. pkg German chocolate cake mix with pudding
1 - 14 oz. bag caramels
1/2 C. margarine
1/3 C. milk
1 C. chopped nuts
3/4 c. chocolate chips

Frosting
1/2 stick oleo
1 1/2 T. cocoa
3 T. vanilla
1/2 box powdered sugar
1/4 C. nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Spoon half of batter into greased and floured 13X9X2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Cake will not test done. Cool cake for 10 minutes. Combine caramels,, butter and milk in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until caramels melt. Spread over cake. Sprinkle nuts and chocolate chips over caramel mixture. Spread remaining cake batter evenly over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Frosting
Heat but do not boil. Remove from heat and beat in powdered sugar. Add nuts. Pour over cake as soon as removed from pan.

What I was searching for here was a recipe that would taste like Mrs. Brooks German chocolate cake. Unfortunately this is not quite as good but is a good alternative. One day Mrs. Brooks is going to give me that recipe!!!!!!
