1/2 cup shortening
2 tbsp sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup molasses
2 1/4 cup flour
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
1 cup orange juice, heated

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add beaten egg and molasses and mix until smooth. Sift flour with baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices. Alternating, add flour mixture and orange juice to molasses mixture. Beat until smooth. Place mixture in greased and floured shallow loaf pan. Bake at 350F for 45 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
