2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup dark molasses
1 tsp ginger
tsp cinnamon
tsp cloves
2 tsp baking soda
2/3 cup butter
1 egg
5 cups cake flour, sifted
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Heat sugar, molasses and spices to a boiling point, stir in soda.
MIXTURE WILL PUFF UP, STIR QUICKLY.
Pour mixture over butter in a bowl, stir until butter is melted. Beat in egg, vanilla and sifted flour.
Blend thoroughly. Knead on board until well blended.
Roll out and cut.
Bake until firm to touch 8 to 10 minutes.
