1 C Hot Applesauce
2/3 C Shortening
1 C Brown Sugar
2 1/2 C sifted Flour
1 tsp Soda
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Vanilla
1 C cut up Dates or Raisins
1/2 C Nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Combine applesauce and shortening. Let sauce melt shortening. Add sugar and mix well. Sift together the flour, soda, salt and cinnamon. Add flour mixture to applesauce mixture, then vanilla, nuts an dates. Spread out in a greased and floured 10 x 15 inch pan or cookie sheet. Bake in a moderate 350 oven about 25 minutes. Frost with plain powdered sugar frosting if desired.
