3/4 shortening
1 c brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c molasses
21/4 c flour
2 tsp soda
1/4 salt
1/2 cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger

Directions:
Directions:
1. Cream shortening, brown sugar. Add egg molasses and stir well.
2. Sift dry ingredients together, flour, soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger. Add to cream mixture.
3. Chill for 1 hour. Roll in to a small ball and then into graduated sugar. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
4. Bake 375 for 8-10 minutes.
