1 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla or almond extract
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and gradually add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add unbeaten egg and vanilla or almond extract; beat well. Sift together dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture. Chill dough about 1 hour. Roll onto well floured (I use powdered sugar) board to 1/4 in thick. Cut out with floured cutter and bake on ungreased cookie sheet.
