"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
1 cup butter 1 1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla or almond extract 2 1/2 cup flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cream of tartar 1/4 tsp salt
Cream butter and gradually add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add unbeaten egg and vanilla or almond extract; beat well. Sift together dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture. Chill dough about 1 hour. Roll onto well floured (I use powdered sugar) board to 1/4 in thick. Cut out with floured cutter and bake on ungreased cookie sheet.
