1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup shortening
1 1/3 sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup butter milk
4 egg whites
1 c pecans

Frosting:
12 oz cream cheese
6 Tablespoon butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
6 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup pecan

Directions:
Directions:
Combine butter and shortening. Add sugar - beat on high til light and fluffy. Add egg yolks and vanilla - beat well. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder and soda. Add to egg yolk mixture alternating with buttermilk. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold egg whites into batter. Pour into 3 - 8 inch prepared cake pans. Bake at 350 for 35 - 30 minutes.

Frosting:
Mix cream cheese, butter and vanilla. Gradually add powdered sugar, beat until smooth. Stir in pecans. Frost cakes

Linda Mack, who is Greg's aunt made this cake at her house. We were in Des Moines for a wedding and she served this at her home. Greg and I had just started dating.
