2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
10 small apples peeled and grated
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder

Caramel Sauce:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
dash nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and apple and mix well.
In a separate bowl mix dry ingredients. Add to wet ingredients. Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes.

Sauce:
Heat butter, sugar, and milk over low heat for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally until stightly thick. DO NOT BOIL. Remove from burner, and add the vanilla and nutmeg. Serve over cake.
