1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup sugar 1 egg 1 cup molasses 2 1/2 cups flour 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoon ginger 1 cup hot water
Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Add molasses. Mix all dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Begin and end with flour mixture alternating with hot water. Pour mixture into lightly greased 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350º for 30-40 minutes. Serve with whipped cream
