3 qt. water
1 lb. navy beans
1 onion
1/2 c. green pepper

3 carrots
3 potatoes
1 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1 t. garlic powder

Directions:
Directions:
Simmer the ham bone with the beans in the 3 qt. water for 2 hours. Remove bone and let cool so you can take ham off the bone to put in the soup.
Chop the onions, green pepper and celery. Peel potatoes and carrots and chop. Combine all the vegetables and seasonings and simmer another 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Mash with a potato masher when done. Add ham. Serve. Note: cook slowly and stir often and watch carefully - can burn easily.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is really Bean Soup - but when Mark was little we re-named it "Ham soup" because Bean soup sounded gross.
