1 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
2 well-beaten eggs
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening & sugars, add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients to mixture. Add oats & nuts and mix well. Shape in rolls; wrap in waxed paper and chill thoroughly. Slice 1/4 inch thick; bake on ungreased cooky sheet in 350 degree oven 10 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.
