Heat 2 cup milk almost to a boil. Remove from heat add and dissolve 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tsp. salt and 1/2 cup shortening. Let cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle 2 pkg. of yeast into 1/4 cup lukewarm water, dissolve.
To milk mixture add 1 egg, yeast mixture and 3 to 4 cup flour sifted with 1 tsp. baking powder and 1/4 tsp soda. Beat well.
Stir in enough more flour ( about 3 or 4 more cups) to make soft dough. Put on well floured surface and knead until smooth.
Put in greased bowl - cover and let rise to double. Punch down and shape into rolls.
Bake 400 for 12 to 15 min.
