2 egg whites
2-1/2 C. sugar
1/2 C. water
1/2 C. light corn syrup
3/4 C. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites until really stiff and set aside.
Combine next 3 ingredients and cook on medium heat without stirring to 234 degrees on candy thermometer.
Pour 1/2 hot syrup mixture over egg whites, STIRRING CONSTANTLY, while pouring. Set egg whites aside again.
Cook remaining syrup to 260 degrees and pour over egg whites STIRRING CONSTANTLY.
Add nuts and vanilla.
Swirl from teaspoon unto waxed paper.

Mother (Ida Warns) made this by the old method of dropping a bead of the hot syrup into cold water to see if it was right consistency. But when she got a candy thermometer she never looked back. Mother was always eager to try new things.
