1 pkg yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 tbsp. sugar
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
3 well beaten egg yolks
1 tsp. salt
1c. half & half
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together yeast, water & sugar - let stand 5 minutes. In a bowl, mix flour & salt together. Add butter and shortening and work as though for pie dough (crumbly). Add half & half and egg yolks. Last, add flavoring and yeast mixture. Work with spoon until dough is smooth. Refrigerate in a greased bowl overnight. Next day: divide dough into 3 parts. Pat on a cookie sheet into a 4 by 10 inch rectangle. Spoon preservers (not jelly) down center of each rectangle. Cut 1in strips on each side of filling. Criss-cross dough over filling. Brush with beaten eggs whites left from the egg yolks.

When cool, drizzle with powdered sugar icing.
