1 lb. stew meat
7 to 8 c. water
1 can stewed tomatoes, undrained (16 oz.)
3/4 c. chopped onion
2 T. beef instant bouillon or 9 cubes
1/2 t. bay leaves
1 1/2 c. chopped carrots
1 1/2 c. chopped celery
1/2 c. regular barley

Directions:
Directions:
In a large kettle, combine stew meat, water, tomatoes, onion, bouillon, basil and bay leaf. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 1 hour. Remove meat from stock; cut meat into 1/2 inch pieces. Skim fat from stock. Add meat and barley to stock; bring to a boil Reduce heat; cover a simmer 30 min. Add carrots and celery; cook 30 min. longer. Remove bay leaf. Refrigerate leftovers.
