1 C Sugar
1 1/2 T Shortening
2 Eggs
3 1/2 C Flour
6 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1 C Milk, soured
Brown Bag of Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder, salt, milk and nutmeg. The batter will be sticky, so add only enough extra flour to be able to handle the batter. Roll batter out, cut out doughnuts and doughnut holes. Fry until just brown. Place doughnuts in bag of sugar and coat. Let cool before serving.

These doughnuts are a Story Halloween tradition. Every Halloween family members and their children would come to my house. The kids would go to the front door for candy, and the parents would sneak though the garage to get fresh doughnuts.
