Mom's Green Tomato Mincemeat Recipe

32 c green tomatoes
16 c diced apples
2 lbs raisins
1 c suet (optional)
1 c vinegar
6 c sugar
2 Tbs cinnamon
1 Tb ground cloves
1 Tb nutmeg


Directions:
Directions:
Drain off juice from your chopped fine tomatoes. Cover with hot water and 2 Tbs salt. Boil 5 minutes and drain. Do this 3 times because it takes the bitterness out of the tomatoes. Then add all the next ingredients. You will need a large pot to do this and most of a day. Slow boil all the mixture till apples look clear. Need to stir to make sure heat not to high. Pack in sterile jars to perserve.

When Mom gave me this recipe I made it every year when the kids were growing up. There was nothing like the smell of apples and cinnamon in the house and the mincemeat pies and mincemeat cookies you could make. Yum!
