1 c. sugar, plus more for rolling cookies
3/4 c. butter, softened
1 egg
3 T. molasses
2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 1/2 t. ground ginger
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/2 t. ground nutmeg
1 c. powdered sugar
1 t. lemon juice

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, cream together 1 c. sugar with butter until fluffy. Mix in egg and molasses. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and spices. Add to butter mixture and blend well. Fill a shallow bowl with sugar. Form walnut sized balls of cookie dough; roll in sugar. Arrange on cookie sheets and bake until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, make the glaze by combining powdered sugar with 1 T. water and stir until smooth. Then stir in lemon juice. Drizzle over cookies.
