Sift together 1 14/ c. cake flour, 1 c. sugar, & 1/2 tsp. baking powder. Measure 3/4 c. egg whites, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1 tsp cream of tartar into a large bowl and beat at high speed until very soft mounds begin to form. Beat 1/2 c. additional sugar into egg whites, a Tbs. at a time; continue beating until very stiff straight peaks form when beater is raised. Do not underbeat. Combine 1/2 cup egg yolks, 1/4 c. cold water, 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 tsp almond extract. Stir egg yolk mixture into dry ingredients. Beat at medium speed for 1 minute. Fold egg yok mixture 1/3 at a time into stiffly beaten egg whites unitl completely blended but do not over stir. Pour into ungreased 10 inch tube pan. Cut gently through batter to remove aair pockets.. Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes. invert immediately and cool in pan at least 1 hour.
