1 large jar Northern beans;
1 slice of ham cut into bite size pieces;
1-2celery,1-2carrots and 1-2onions chopped and lightly browned in olive oil( I also cut up the tops of celery and add also)
pepper to taste
1 Bay leaf

Put all ingredients into dutch oven, add 8 cups water and simmer about 1 hour or less
