1 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
tsp salt
cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg, well beaten
almonds or walnuts
1 egg white, beaten
cinnamon sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, measure, add baking powder, salt and sift again. Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and beat until light; add egg. Combine dry ingredients and creamed mixture. Form into 2 small rolls and chill at least 20 minutes. Roll thin on a lightly floured board and cut into fancy shapes. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Brush with egg white diluted with water. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or red and green sugar. Press a piece of almond or walnut onto dough. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes.

Anna Ruth rolls them thin and can get as much as 5 dozen. Monitor baking time accordingly. These were Aunt Eleanor's specialty.
