Oatmeal Caramelitas Recipe

2 C. flour
2 C. quick cooking oats
1 1/2 C. brown sugar
1 1/4 C. butter, softened
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

1 jar (12.25oz) caramel ice cream topping
3 TB. flour
1 C. (6oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 C. any kind of chpd. nuts (optional)

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 pan. In lg. bowl, beat base ingredients until crumbly. Reserve half of crumb mixture(about 3 cups) for topping. Press remaining crumb mixture in bottom of pan. Bake for 10 min. Meanwhile, in small bowl stir together caramel topping and flour.
Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over partially baked crust. Drizzle evenly with caramel mixture, sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake 18-22 min. or until golden brown. Cool completely in pan on cooling rack for about 1 hour. Refrigerate 1-2 hours or until filling is set.
