3/4 cup butter
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
2 cups flour
3/4 cup powdered cocoa
1 1/4 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 1/3 cups water

Frosting:
6 T. butter
3/4 cup cocoa
2 2/3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 t. vanilla

Cream butter and cocoa. Add sugar alternately with milk and vanilla. Beat to a spreading consistency.

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs and vanilla and beat for one minute at medium speed. Combine flour, cocoa, soda and salt. Add alternately with the water to the creamed mixture. Pour into 2 greased and floured 8" cake pans. Bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes and then remove from pans. Cool completely before frosting.
