Dissolve 3 pkgs. Yeast in ˝ cup warm water and 1 tsp. sugar

Add:

6 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
4-6 eggs (beaten)
2 tsp. vanilla or lemon extract

Directions:
Directions:
Pour all ingredients in bowl with yeast mix. Beat with a fork until smooth. Cover and put in warm place. Let rise 1 hour until dough doubles in size. Knock down and let it rise again.

Pull off enough dough to make a large biscuit; pinch that dough with your thumb and finger in several places; drop into hot vegetable oil. Let brown on both sides, remove from oil; drain slightly. Put sugar in a brown lunch bag and add 1 donut at a time, shake to cover donut with sugar, remove and put on plate repeat until all are done.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
It’s better not to make these when the weather is wet or humid because they won’t rise properly.

This is my mother-in-law, Marie Ormonde’s recipe.
