Directions:
Mix flour with baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening (lard is best!) Add milk and stir. Turn onto a pastry sheet and knead lightly. Roll into a rectangle and cut into 6 large squares. Peal and core the apples and place each on a dough square. Fill each cavity with 1 TB sugar and some cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring dough up and around the apple and press together. Place dumplings in pan, side by side. Pour the syrup that has been cooked for 5 minutes over the apples. Place in a 375 oven and after 20 minutes, reduce the heat to 300 and continue to bake until apples are tender. Baste occasionally. Serve warm.

Personal Notes:
This is an all-time favorite apple recipe from the farm. The dumplings are rich in flavor and the syrup makes them so yummy. Mom made these a lot. They are really rich served with cream.....
