1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 can evaporated milk (13 oz.)
2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and egg, add milk and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients. DO NOT add too much flour, just enough to have dough hold together. The less you mix the dough, the better the cookies will be. Use a floured surface and roll just a small portion of the dough about 1/4 inch thick and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350 for 11 minutes. Do not let cookies brown. Cool and frost with your favorite frosting.
**I use cream cheese frosting with powdered food coloring for every holiday.

Personal Notes:
This sugar cookie is more a batter than a stiff dough. The less you work the dough the softer the cookie. I don't let them get brown or they really will be hard.
I have cookie cutters for every holiday, and with a little food coloring and imagination they look great and have the same wonderful taste.
