1 c. shortening,
1 c. sugar,
1 c. molasses,
2 eggs,
1/2 tsp. cloves,
1 tsp. cinnamon,
1 tsp. ginger,
1/2 tsp nutmeg,
3 tsp. baking soda, 1 c. sour cream or sour milk
1 c. raisins or nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening and sugar, add molasses. Beat in eggs. Mix dry ingredients. Add alternately with sour milk until dough is heavy. Refrigerate overnight and roll out to about 1/4 to 1/5 inch thickness and cut with cookie cutters. Place on baking sheet and bake 5-7 minutes at 350 until done but not browned. Remove from baking sheet.
