1/2 C soft butter or margarine
2/3 C sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/8 cream of tartar
1 C flour
1/3 C chopped pecans
pecan halves for each cookie (approximate 48)

Directions:
Directions:
In large bowl cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolk and vanilla-beat until mixture is light and fluffy.
Beat in cream of tartar. Stir in flour and chopped pecans. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet (approximate 1/2 tsp) 1 inch apart. Press pecan halves into center. Bake at 300 degrees until golden--23 to 35 minutes. Remove immediately and cool.

a dark cookie sheet makes the cookies brown quicker, so monitor. They must come off cookie sheet immediately or they will crumble.
