1 quart half and half
1 cup sugar
5 egg yolks
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 to 2 cups whole milk

Directions:
Directions:
In a heavy saucepan bring half and half just to simmering, over medium heat. Whisk together remaining ingredients. Gradually add hot half-and-half, whisking continually. Return mix to saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until custard is thick enough to coat a spoon (about five minutes). Pour custard through a strainer into a clean bowl, and refrigerate until cold and ready to freeze. Add whole milk to mix as you fill the freezer container.
