In a medium mixing bowl, sprinkle sugar over the blackberries and gently stir to cover. In another bowl sift dry ingredients and add 1/3 cup butter (room temperature); cut into the dry ingredients with a knife. Add the egg and milk to make a soft dough. Turn dough onto a floured bread board and knead lightly to hold dough together. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and spread with remaining butter over top. Spoon sweetened blackberries over dough and then roll up, jelly-roll fashion. Place on a baking sheet and bake at 400 for 25 minutes. Serve warm or cold; slice and serve with ice cream.
