1/2 c. shortening 1 1/4 c. sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1/2 c. cocoa (make into a paste by adding hot coffee) 1 3/4 c. flour 1 c. sweet or sour milk 1 tsp. soda scant tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla
Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add eggs and vanilla. Add cocoa paste and mix well. Sift flour, soda and salt together. Mix all together but do not overmix. Bake in 2- 8in. cake pans or loaf pan for 30-35 minutes at 350º.
