1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups all- purpose flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 orange

Directions:
Directions:
Cream margarine and sugar together. Add eggs and beat well. Add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix well. Grate the rind of the orange and fold into cake. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes in a greased and floured 9 X 12 in. pan. Ice cake with recipe on the next page.

Mother always made test cakes for Rodney and me. She would grease and flour old mayonnaise jar lids and cook a sample of the cake to see if we liked it before she baked the main cake. We loved it.
