1 cup sugar 8 cups warm water 3 Tbs. salt 8 Tbs. shortening 3 yeast cakes 1 c powdered milk flour, brown or white
Mix all ingredients except flour into a sponge and let rise until double in bulk. Mix enough flour (start with about 10 cups) to make a dough that can be kneaded. Knead 10 minutes. Let rise once. Mold rolls and bake at once. Mold bread and bake as soon as rolls are finished. Makes 4 loaves of bread and 2 pans of rolls, or 6 loaves of bread.
