1 C. shortening
1 C. sugar
1 C. dark molasses
2 T. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla
6 C. sifted, flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses, vinegar and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with 1/3 C. Hot Water. Divide dough into 2 pieces and chill 1 hour. Roll out on lightly floured surface. Cut in shapes. Place 1 inch apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until set.
