1 cup boiling water
1 cup sliced dates
1 tsp soda
1 egg beaten
1 tbs shortening
1 1/2 cup sifted flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325
Pour boiling water over dates, soda and shortening in mixing bowl. Cool. Stir in brown sugar and egg. Add flour, salt and nuts, mix well. Grease small loaf pan (8 by 3 by 3)
Bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hour. Cool on rack. "This bread slices beautifully even when warm. Moist and delicious. You could use pineapple slice and cherries on top if decoration is desired"
